Programapedia: The Synergistic Approach to Programming provides access to programming and presenter resources for use by any library. This project was started by staff of the Prairie Area Library System and the Shawnee Library System. Although we invite any library to utilize the database and contact any of the presenters, initially only librarians from the Prairie Area and Shawnee Library Systems who have been trained in Programapedia are eligible to input data. As people become more familiar with searching the tool, other libraries will be able to register as "authors".

The program and presenter profiles offer details about programming events and presentations. These profiles provide information including logistics, program description, costs, feedback and presentation materials, as available.

To be included in Programapedia, presenters must be available to Illinois libraries. Speakers and presentors listed may also be available outside of Illinois.

Although the project is open to all libraries, only members of the Prairie Area and Shawnee Library Systems are invited to register as authors and add data. Staff from member libraries of these system may request an author account for Programapedia. The account request is approved by the sponsoring library systems before entries can be added or updated.

The project is supported through grant funding awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
