Fill out and submit form

From Programapedia

Jump to: navigation, search

Step 3 – Access the form you want to use through the For Authors link on the Navigation Bar. (Add Company, Add Library, Add Presenter or Add Program)

Complete the web-based form, providing as much detail as possible. A wiki page is created when the form is submitted. Once the wiki page exists, any page can be updated and expanded using wiki text.

Contents

Example 1: Add Library

In our example from the prior search, we would call the Add Library form from the Special Pages link, or we would click on the (Add Library) link from within a page showing the yet-to-be-created internal wiki page “LaSalle Public Library.” Using the later approach, it is best to copy the text and paste it into the form, which keeps the name (and thus the link) consistent and correct.

  • Copy text (LaSalle Public Library)
  • Click (Add Library) link
  • Paste copied text, or type in the Library name

Enter as much detail as possible. The only required information is the Library name, however, the more complete the form, the more robust the wiki page will be. Once the page is created using the data entry form, all future edits will be made directly using wiki text editing features.

Remember: The purpose of Programapedia is to share library programming information, so the library page within Programapedia should include information regarding facilities for programs, resources and web links related to programming promotion and calendar of events, and the contact people at the library responsible for managing programs and presenters.

Example 2: Add Presenter

Before adding a Presenter, verify whether or not the presenter you want to add already exists in the wiki. Check the Presenters page in the Navigation Bar for verification.

Presenters are added to the category listing alphabetically by last name, but displayed as first name, last name.

If the presenter you want to add is not listed, add them to the wiki. Click on For Authors on the Navigation Bar and select Add Presenter. Enter the required Presenter First Name and Presenter Last Name fields and all additional information.

The Add Presenter form allows selection of multiple checkboxes to reflect geographic availability, audience, age level and language. By choosing these fields, the presenter will be automatically listed in the category associated with the checked value.

When specifying web links and documents, use a naming convention that will be helpful for keeping media files organized, such as prefacing the filenames with the presenters last name.

Example 3: Add Program

The process to Add Program follows the sames steps as Add Library and Add Presenter. If a program you want to enter already exists in Programapedia, do not use the Add Program form. Instead, add your experience with the program to the existing page directly by editing the wiki page. When searching to see if the program already exists in Programapedia, it is recommended that you search for both the program name and the presenter name, just to make sure you don't duplicate entries. It's possible program names might vary slightly from library to library.

Programs are associated with either an external presenter or with a specific library if the program is presented by a library staff member. The Add Program form requires the program name and either the first name/last name of the external presenter or the name of the library. Program pages within Programapedia include the program name and reflect who conducted the program.

With this approach, libraries that offer programs with the same name, but through different presenters or by their own library staff, can use the web form to create their unique content related to the program.
